Rigorous But Friendly Chemistry
By the time your child nears graduation your daily involvement in his academics should be as hands-off as possible. That is why we are pleased to offer you Friendly Chemistry, A Guide to Learning Basic Chemistry. Rigorous enough to prepare any teen for college, but friendly enough to keep the tears at bay, Friendly Chemistry covers all of the topics typically taught in a traditional high school chemistry course. Starting with the atom, Friendly Chemistry builds concepts logically from there.
Teaching Tips, Instruction, and More
For the mature teen, working with only the Teacher Edition is the most cost-effective way to use Friendly Chemistry. Each lesson in the two-volume teacher set begins with teaching tips and detailed instructions and explanations for each component of the lesson. The teaching tips are followed by the text portion of the lesson, and then by worksheets and hands-on activities. A test concludes each lesson and an answer key is also included.
Optional Games Reinforce Learning
The suggested games assume a basic knowledge of chemistry concepts, perfect to reinforce and demonstrate knowledge of what your student has learned and ideally the only time a parent needs to be directly involved. Better yet, round up a peer or sibling, because Friendly Chemistry is a lot more fun when you can share the adventure. However, if your child is more studious and less inclined to play, you’ll be glad to know that the games are optional; worksheets in the text cover the same review.

Labs Use Household Items
Labs use household items and other resources that are generally easy to obtain. The labs present the only difficulty of using only the Teacher Edition of Friendly Chemistry, as a couple of the labs require the use of a mystery concoction that the student is supposed to analyze, which of course is difficult if he has just read the formula! Our suggestion is simply to have your student turn the book over to you long enough for you to set the solution up, then hand it back so they can continue on with their independent learning.
Student Resources Available Separately
Since the student text and worksheets are included in the Teacher Edition, most families won’t find the separate Friendly Chemistry Student Edition and Workbook necessary if they just have one student using the program. However, extra Student Editions and Workbooks are available for additional students, or if you simply prefer not to have your student work in the Teacher Edition.
